Smooth Tracking and Target Following
Following the Flying Balloon!
Imagine following a floating balloon in the air with a laser pointer flashlight. You do not want to jerk your hand around wildly. You want to glide your laser pointer smoothly along with the balloon!
This smooth continuous aiming skill is called tracking.
Biomechanics of Smooth Tracking:
- Eliminating Hand Tension: Squeezing your mouse tightly causes muscle tremors and shaky crosshair lines. Maintain a relaxed grip pressure (about 3 out of 10 tension level).
- Arm vs Wrist Biomechanics:
- Use your elbow and forearm sliding across the desk for wide horizontal tracking sweeps.
- Use your wrist and fingers for fine vertical elevation adjustments.
- Velocity Matching: Match your hand speed continuously with the target speed. Do not reactively chase behind the target; match its speed smoothly as one continuous fluid motion.
