Safe GPU Overclocking Step by Step

Giving Your Engine Safe Rocket Fuel!

Overclocking means telling your GPU engine to spin a little bit faster than its factory default speed. It gives you extra frames per second (FPS) in games completely for free!

We do this very gently step by step so our computer stays 100 percent safe and stable.

Understanding GPU Architecture (Core Clock vs Memory Clock)

A graphics card contains two main speed dials:

  1. Core Clock (Shader Engine): The speed of the primary processing cores that calculate 3D graphics, lighting, and physics.
  2. Memory Clock (VRAM Bandwidth): The speed of the video memory that transfers textures and frame data to the cores.
  3. Power Limit Slider: Controls the total electrical wattage headroom allowed for the card. Increasing power limit gives the GPU room to sustain higher clocks without pulling extra dangerous voltage.

Safe Step by Step Overclocking Method:

  1. Maximize Power Limit: In MSI Afterburner, drag the Power Limit slider all the way to the right (for example 105 percent or 110 percent) and click the checkmark to apply.
  2. Tune Core Clock Offset: Increase the Core Clock slider by +25 MHz and click Apply.
  3. Run a Benchmark Loop: Open a demanding benchmark tool like 3DMark TimeSpy or Unigine Heaven and let it run for 10 minutes.
  4. Test VRAM Memory Clock: If Core Clock is stable, increase Memory Clock in +50 MHz increments.
  5. Recognizing Artifacting: If you see weird flickering dots, color flashes, or game crashes, you went slightly too far! Simply reduce the clock slider by 25 MHz to return to a rock-solid stable setting.
