GPU Undervolting for Lower Temps and Higher Clocks

Healthy Fuel for Higher Speed!

Graphics cards often drink way more electrical power than they actually need! Drinking excess electrical power makes them get super hot!

Undervolting means feeding your GPU the exact perfect amount of electrical voltage so it stays cool, uses less electricity, and runs even faster than stock settings!

The Science of the Voltage-Frequency Curve

Graphics cards operate along a Voltage-Frequency (V-F) curve programmed at the factory:

  1. Factory Voltage Overhead: Manufacturers give cards excess voltage to guarantee stability across every chip produced.
  2. Power Consumption Equation: Electrical heat output scales exponentially with voltage. Lowering voltage drastically drops heat.
  3. Sustained Maximum Boost: By reducing heat, the GPU never thermal throttles, keeping its highest boost clock locked indefinitely.

Step by Step Undervolting Guide in MSI Afterburner:

  1. Open Curve Editor: In MSI Afterburner, press Ctrl + F on your keyboard to open the Voltage Frequency Curve Editor graph.
  2. Identify Target Frequency: Look at your GPU maximum boost frequency (for example 1950 MHz).
  3. Locate Target Voltage Point: Find a lower voltage point on the bottom horizontal axis (for example 925 mV instead of stock 1050 mV).
  4. Adjust the Curve Point: Click the 925 mV point and drag it up so its frequency matches 1950 MHz.
  5. Flatten High Voltage Points: Click and drag all points to the right of 925 mV so they form a perfectly flat horizontal line at 1950 MHz.
  6. Apply and Verify: Click Apply on Afterburner! Test in heavy games. Your GPU will now run up to 10 degrees cooler with zero loss in FPS!
