Super Smooth Flipbook Animation on Your Monitor!
Your computer monitor works like a fast flipbook. If a flipbook has 60 pages per second (60Hz), the drawing looks okay. But if the flipbook has 144, 240, or 360 pages per second (144Hz, 240Hz, 360Hz), moving targets look silky smooth and crystal clear!
Understanding Refresh Rate (Hz) vs Pixel Response Time (GtG)
- Refresh Rate (Hz): How many new frames the display panel draws per second. A 240Hz screen draws a frame every 4.1 milliseconds, whereas a 60Hz screen takes 16.6 milliseconds!
- Pixel Response Time (Gray-to-Gray GtG): The time it takes for individual display pixels to change color from one shade to another. Slow pixel transitions cause blurry motion trails called ghosting.
- Monitor Overdrive: Applies voltage boosts to liquid crystals to accelerate pixel transitions.
Configuring Maximum Smoothness Step by Step:
- Enable High Refresh Rate in Windows: Right-click your desktop, select Display Settings -> Advanced Display. Under Refresh rate, choose the highest number available (for example 144Hz, 240Hz, or 360Hz).
- Check GPU Control Panel: Open NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Software, navigate to Change Resolution, and verify refresh rate is set to maximum native resolution.
- Tune Monitor On-Screen Display (OSD) Overdrive: Press the physical menu buttons on your monitor to open the OSD menu. Locate Response Time or Overdrive:
- Set to Fast or Medium.
- Avoid Extreme / Ultra mode if you see bright glowing outlines (inverse ghosting) behind moving objects!
- Motion Blur Reduction (ULMB / DyAc): If your monitor features backlight strobing technologies like DyAc or ULMB, turn it ON to eliminate motion blur during fast camera turns.
